to create a bootable disk (CD, DVD, flash drive, etc) that one can use to run the software on a PC without having to sacrifice other operating systems (Windows, etc).

You can use FreeDOS to create a bootable floppy disk that then runs a batch file to switch from DOS to FreeRTOS.org. See the PC port documentation.
