Which timer does freeRTOS use in SAM7 port?? Is it the PIT or one of the three harware timers?? My guess is the PIT but I need to be sure!

check out prvSetupTimerInterrupt() in Source\portable\IAR\AtmelSAM7S64\port.c

It is the PIT.
